Their Celebrity: Their Get Out of Jail Free Card

We see it time and time again: the overexploited, troubled stars of today. Their lives are engulfed in this game called, "Celeb-Reality". The fame, fortune and fans accompanied by drugs, alcohol and the many other stresses those in the public eye encounter, are the rewards and consequences of every move being played. We place them on pedestals, view them as the flawless influencers of our social development, and see their actions as influential and preeminent. However, if they're so influential, why haven't their negative actions spawned negative consequences? Are some too famous for consequence?

Celebs like Paris Hilton, and Lindsay Lohan have dodged the trapping iron rods for years for their involvement with drugs and alcohol. Their "celebrity" has become their "get out of jail free card". These stars are developing the mindset that they are beyond the law, an idea that the judicial system has proven undeniable. Exploring Lohan's recent run-ins with the law, we see that the fan focus is on her nonsensical actions rather than her health and well being. We fail to see these deficiencies as the cries for help that they really are and often forget that celebrities are in fact human beings. Until they experience consequences, they will not learn from and thus resolve their problems at hand, which will ultimately lead to their demise.

Regardless of their ignorant actions that we so easily let slide, we will not release our ideology of these prominent figures. Our mentality of right and wrong is skewed due to the stories we are exposed to each day. So to Paris, Lindsay, Charlie, and Lil Wayne, I say this: be careful of your actions and mindful of the thoughts you share. Though they see minimal consequences, those who aspire to be like you who imitate those actions will see consequences more extreme than your own. You will then be an accessory to the demise of those following you, and without people following, your celebrity will fade. Your game will then end, more players will enter, and no one will remember the player who lost due to inebriation.
