Vintage Where: The Mind of a Photographer

The camera is warm from his unyielding grip. With every flick, the camera captures a swift movement, engulfed in color and beauty. The model's fluidity is inspiration enough to keep shooting. Her statuesque appearance is captured perfectly in each shot. Her chocolate skin radiates beneath the soft spot lights. The end result, an inspired photograph that embodies the idea of fashion and glamor. This is how photographer and model, Sherrod Bolden, pours out his creativity.
After modeling for years in high school, Bolden wanted to expand his skill set. It was then that he made the swift transition from model to photographer. He found reward in turning every day people into models. "I love to take someone you wouldn't expect to model and turn them into something beautiful," said Bolden. He considers himself a fashion and editorial photographer, but also tries to stay as commercial as possible to keep a diverse pool of clients.
Like most photographers, Bolden's inspiration derives from many other creative venues. However, one of Bolden's inspirations may come as a surprise to others. "I think half of my inspiration comes from music, and the other half from other photographers." said Bolden. This is surprising because many artists are scared to admit that much of their inspiration draws from their competition. Bolden, however, thinks of photography as various artists contributing to one movement, rather than competing. "I love to pull from other's ideas, and make it my own." said the photographer, "Nothing is new anyways, so other artists should feel flattered by my admiration."
There's no doubt that other artists admire Bolden's work as well as his humility and generosity. "Sherrod, is one of the most giving photographers I've ever met." said one of Bolden's frequent models and admirers. "He is really talented and is experiencing a lot of success, so the fact that he still helps others with networking, it shows his character."
Many have had first-hand encounters with the 23 year old photographer's generosity. "What's for you is for you, so no matter what other artists you may pub may accomplish, your work and humility will be remembered and beneficial." said Bolden. He believes that uplifting other photographers and models is also a form of networking.
Bolden also focuses on an area that is often looked over in the fashion industry. Models of color. "My mother was always so "black power" that it rubbed off on me." said Bolden, "That's why most of my models and the people I pub are minorities." The fashion industry focuses on models with European features, and has made that the standard of beauty. Bolden is trying to alter the industry's skewed vision of what is beautiful through his work.
Sherrod Bolden embodies the idea of an artists, which is evident in his work. With the support of fellow photographers and models, there's no wonder why the photographer is experiencing so much publicity around Tallahassee. His focus on uplifting other artists and creating a new idea of beauty has been recognized by other photographers throughout the United States. We will certainly be seeing much more achievements and inspirational photographs from Bolden in the future.
